Ji Hyun Kim, piano

Ji Hyun Kim is currently the director of piano studies at the Denver School of the Arts. Ji Hyun received her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2020 under the instruction of Dr. Kasandra Keeling and her Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance at Lamont School of Music in 2022 under the instruction of Dr. Stephanie Cheng. She graduated from Kaywon High School of Arts in South Korea with a Piano Performance Diploma in 2012.


At Lamont School of Music, she was the recipient of the Harry Albert Scholarship and Anna Hanley Bird Scholarship, and has received the Outstanding Recital Award and the Sarah C. Manion Award for Excellence in Piano in 2020 - 2022. In 2021, Ji Hyun was a runner-up in the Lamont School of Music concerto competition. Ji Hyun was awarded a scholarship to the Colorado International Piano Festival in the summer of 2018, where she received private instruction from Jerome Lowenthal of the Juilliard School, Lei Weng from University of Northern Colorado University, and Thomas Hecht from Young Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore. At UTSA, she was the recipient of the Marjorie Powell Zachry Scholarship in Piano Performance, received the Department of Music Christine Debus Accompanying Award twice, and was awarded the Deborah Moore-Steinway Piano Gallery Piano Performance Award in 2017, 2018, and 2020. In summer 2019, after winning the local competition division in San Antonio, she received Honorable Mention at the state-level Texas Music Teachers Association Young Artist Competition in Waco, Texas.  Past competition awards include first prize winner at the UTSA Concerto & Aria Competition, first prize winner at the Chungnam Student Piano Competition, the Grand Prize Winner at Yejin Artist Music Competition, and second prize at the Anyang Youth Piano Competition. 


Ji Hyun was the featured piano soloist with the UTSA Orchestra in a performance of the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto in G minor in 2016. She served as the pianist for the UTSA Orchestra, UTSA Wind Ensemble, and UTSA Symphonic Band and has also been a church pianist since 2010.  She worked as a teaching intern at the non-profit organization, SA Youth, as a member of Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Chapter at UTSA in 2019-2020. She was a piano graduate assistant at Lamont School of Music and a faculty member at DU Prep Program in 2020-2022. She also gave a presentation about "Gamify Your Teaching - Gamification for Creative Learning" at the Colorado State Music Teachers Association (CSMTA) conference in 2022 as a member of the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Chapter at Lamont School of Music.
